We retain specific Personal Information based on how long we have a legitimate purpose for the retention—consistent with the collection purposes and applicable law.

How We Collect Personal Information

We collect Personal Information in the following ways:

Information You Give to Us

You will submit Personal Information to us when you create an account or complete forms on our website, potentially including Information about individual health conditions, treatment, diseases, or diagnosis, if you are applying to live with an assistance animal. In addition, when you use our platform, we may collect certain financial information in connection with an online payment card transaction.

As an employee of a property manager or housing provider, you may choose to provide us with Personal Information about yourself. You may also provide us with certain Personal Information when you apply for a job with us.

You may also provide us with Personal Information about yourself when you report a problem or have a question about our services.

The Sites offer interactive and social features that permit you to submit content and communicate with us. You may provide Personal Information to us when you post information in these interactive and social features. Please note that your postings in these areas of the Sites may be publicly accessible or accessible to other users.

From Third Parties

Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you direct your browser to our services.
  • Web Beacons. Pages of our Sites or our e-mails may contain small electronic files known as web beacons (also referred to as clear gifs, pixel tags and single-pixel gifs) that permit us, for example, to count users who have visited those pages or opened an e-mail and for other related website statistics (for example, recording the popularity of certain website content and verifying system and server integrity).
  • Clickstream Data. Clickstream data is information collected by our computers when you request Web pages from the Sites. Clickstream data may include information such as the page served, the time spent viewing the page, source of the request, type of browser making the request, the preceding page viewed and similar information. Tracking Technologies Generally

Regular cookies may generally be disabled or removed by tools available as part of most commercial browsers, and in some instances blocked in the future by selecting certain settings. Browsers offer different functionalities and options, so you may need to set them separately. Also, tools from commercial browsers may not be effective with regard to Flash cookies (also known as locally shared objects), HTML5 cookies, or other tracking technologies. For information on disabling Flash cookies, go to Adobe’s website. Please be aware that if you disable or remove these technologies, some parts of the Site may not work and that when you revisit the Site your ability to limit browser-based tracking technologies is subject to your browser settings and limitations.

Analytics and Advertising Tracking Technologies

You may exercise choices regarding the use of cookies from Google Analytics by going here or downloading the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You may exercise choices regarding the use of cookies from Adobe Analytics by going here and following the instructions under the section labeled "For End Users of business using Adobe Experience Cloud."

For the Site, you may choose whether to receive some Online Interest-based Advertising by submitting opt-outs. Some of the advertisers and service providers that perform advertising-related services for us related to our Site and third parties may participate in the Digital Advertising Alliance’s ("DAA") Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioral Advertising. To learn more about how you can exercise certain choices regarding Online Interest-based Advertising, go here. Some of these companies may also be members of the Network Advertising Initiative ("NAI"). To learn more about the NAI and your opt-out options for their members, go here. Please be aware that, even if you are able to opt out of certain kinds of Online Interest-based Advertising, you may continue to receive other types of ads. Opting out only means that those selected members should no longer deliver certain Online Interest-based Advertising to you but does not mean you will no longer receive any targeted content and/or ads (e.g., from other ad networks). Also, if your browsers are configured to reject cookies when you visit these opt-out webpages, or you subsequently erase your cookies, use a different device or web browser or use a non-browser-based method of access (e.g., mobile app), your NAI / DAA browser-based opt-out may not, or may no longer, be effective. We support the ad industry’s Self-regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising and expects that ad networks we directly engage to serve you Online Interest-based Advertising will do so as well, though we cannot guaranty their compliance. We are not responsible for effectiveness of, or compliance with, any third-parties’ opt-out options or programs or the accuracy of their statements regarding their programs.

Communications

You can opt out of receiving certain promotional emails from us at any time by following the instructions provided in emails to click on the unsubscribe link, or by changing your marketing communication preferences by logging onto your account. Please note that your opt-out is limited to the e-mail address used and will not affect subsequent subscriptions. If you opt-out of only certain communications, other subscription communications may continue. Even if you opt out of receiving promotional communications, we may, subject to applicable law, continue to send you non-promotional communications, such as those about your account, transactions, servicing, or our ongoing business relations.

Third Party Links

The Sites may contain links to webpages operated by parties other than us. We do not control such websites and are not responsible for their contents or the privacy policies or other practices of such websites. Our inclusion of links to such websites does not imply any endorsement of the material on such websites or any association with their operators. Further, it is up to the user to take precautions to ensure that whatever links the user selects or software the user downloads (whether from this Site or other websites) is free of such items as viruses, worms, trojan horses, defects and other items of a destructive nature. These websites and services may have their own privacy policies, which the user will be subject to upon linking to the third party's website. We strongly recommend that each user review the third party's terms and policies.

How We Protect Personal Information

We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect your Personal Information against accidental, unlawful or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure or use. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk, taking into account technological reality, cost, the scope, context and purposes of processing weighted against the severity and likelihood that the processing could threaten individual rights and freedoms. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.  When you provide us with financial information, we encrypt the transmission of that information by using industry practices as outlined by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

If you have reason to believe that your Personal Information is no longer secure (for example, if you feel that the security of your account has been compromised), please contact us immediately at privacy@petscreening.com.

Children

The Site is not intended for use by children. We do not intentionally collect Personal Information about visitors who are under the age of 16. If a child has provided us with Personal Information, a parent or guardian of that child may contact us to have the information deleted from our records. If you believe that we might have any information from a child under age 16 in the applicable jurisdiction, please contact us at privacy@petscreening.com. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected the Personal Information of a child under 16, or equivalent minimum age depending on jurisdiction, we will take steps to delete the information as soon as possible.

“Do Not Track” Signals

Your browser settings may allow you to automatically transmit a "Do Not Track" signal to Internet sites you visit. Note, however, there is no consensus among industry participants as to what "Do Not Track" means in this context. Like many Internet sites, we currently do not alter our practices when we receive a "Do Not Track" signal from a visitor’s browser. To find out more about "Do Not Track," you can visit www.allaboutdnt.com, but we are not responsible for the completeness or accuracy of this third party information. Some third parties, however, may offer you choices regarding their tracking technologies. For specific information on some of the choice options offered by third party analytics and advertising providers, see “Analytics and Advertising Tracking Technologies,” above. We may offer tools in connection with the Site that allow you to exercise certain preferences regarding cookies and other tracking technologies associated with the Site.

State Privacy Notice

This State Privacy Notice applies to “Consumers,” as defined under state laws, rules, regulations, directives, governmental and regulatory requirements and guidance including, but not limited to the California Consumer Privacy Act, including as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA”), the Colorado Privacy Act, Connecticut’s Act Concerning Personal Data Privacy and Online Monitoring, Chapter 603A of the Nevada Revised Statutes, the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the Utah Consumer Privacy Act, the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, the Washington My Health, My Data Act, and all laws implementing, supplementing or amending the foregoing, including regulations promulgated thereunder (collectively, “U.S. Privacy Laws”).

Your Consumer Rights

As described more below, subject to meeting the requirements for a Verifiable Consumer Request (defined below) and limitations permitted by applicable laws, we provide Consumers  the privacy rights described in this section.  Note that with respect to residents of Nevada and Washington, such rights apply only to Personal Information about individual health conditions, treatment, diseases, or diagnosis (which we may collect in connection with applications for assistance animals).

  • Right to Know.  Residents of California, Colorado, Texas, Virginia and Washington are entitled to access their Personal Information up to twice in a 12-month period.  Residents of Connecticut, Oregon and Utah are entitled to access their Personal Information once every 12-month period.
  • Categories of Personal Information. You have a right to submit a request for any of the following:
    • The categories of Personal Information we have collected about you.
    • The categories of sources from which we collected your Personal Information.
    • The Business Purposes or Commercial Purposes for our collecting, Selling, or Sharing your Personal Information.
    • The categories of third parties to whom we have disclosed your Personal Information.
    • A list of the categories of Personal Information disclosed for a business purpose and, for each, the categories of recipients, or that no disclosure occurred.
    • A list of the categories of Personal Information Sold or Shared about you and, for each, the categories of recipients, or that no Sale or Share occurred.

  • Specific Personal Information. You may request to confirm if we are processing your Personal Information and, if we are, to obtain a transportable copy, subject to applicable request limits, of your Personal Information that we have collected and are maintaining.  For your specific Personal Information, as required by applicable U.S. Privacy Laws, we will apply the heightened verification standards as described below. Although we do not sell or share consumer health data with third parties, residents of Nevada and Washington have the right to request that we provide a list of all third parties with whom we have shared your consumer health data or to whom we have sold such consumer health data.
  • Right to Delete. You have the right to request that we delete your Personal Information, subject to certain exceptions or limitations.
  • Right to Opt Out of the “Sale” or “Sharing” of Your Personal Information. Under the various U.S. Privacy Laws there are broad and differing concepts of “Selling” Personal Information for which an opt-out is required.  U.S. State Privacy Laws also allow consumers to opt-out from the use of Personal Information for the tracking, profiling, and targeting of advertisements (referred to as “Sharing”). We may Sell or Share your Personal Information. However, you have the right to opt out of such Selling or Sharing. Third-Party Digital Businesses may associate cookies and other tracking technologies that collect Personal Information about you on our services, or otherwise collect and process Personal Information on our Services, or otherwise, to Third-Party Digital Businesses could be deemed a Sale or Sharing under some U.S. Privacy Laws and thus we will treat such Personal Information (e.g., cookie ID, IP address, and other online IDs and internet or other electronic activity information) collected by Third-Party Digital Businesses, where not limited to acting as our service provider, as a Sale or Sharing and subject to an opt-out request. We will not Sell your Personal Information or Share your Personal Information for targeted advertising if you exercise your right to opt out of Selling and Sharing.

Opt-out for non-cookie Personal Information: If you want to limit our processing of your non-cookie Personal Information (e.g., your email address) for targeted advertising, or opt-out of the Sale and Sharing of such data, make an opt-out request here.

Opt-out for cookie Personal Information: If you want to limit our processing of your cookie-related Personal Information for targeted advertising, or opt-out of the Sale and Sharing of such Personal Information, you need to exercise a separate opt-out request on the consent management tool on our Sites. This is because we have to use different technologies to apply your opt-out of cookie Personal Information and to non-cookie Personal Information.   Our cookie management tool enables you to exercise such an opt-out request and enable certain cookie preferences on your device. You must exercise your preferences on each of our websites you visit, from each browser you use, and on each device that you use.  Since your browser opt-out is designated by a cookie, if you clear or block cookies, your preferences will no longer be effective and you will need to enable them again via our cookie management tool.  Beware that if you use ad blocking software, our cookie banner may not appear when you visit our services and you may have to use the link above to access the tool.

Global Privacy Control (“GPC”): We have configured the settings of our consent management platform to receive and process GPC signals, which are signals sent by a platform, technology, or mechanism, enabled by individuals on their devices or browsers, that communicate the individual’s choice to opt-out of the Sale and Sharing of Personal Information. To use a GPC, you can download an internet browser or a plugin to use on your current internet browser and follow the settings to enable the GPC.  This is explained by our consent management platform here.  We process GPC with respect to Sales and Sharing that may occur in the context of collection of cookie Personal Information by tracking technologies online by Third-Party Digital Businesses, discussed above, and apply it to the specific browser on which you enable the GPC. We currently do not, due to technical limitations,  process GPC for opt-outs of Sales and Sharing in other contexts (e.g., non-cookie PI).  We do not: (1) charge a fee for use of our service if you have enabled the GPC; (2) change your experience with any product or service if you use the GPC; or (3) display a notification, pop-up, text, graphic, animation, sound, video, or any interstitial in response to the GPC.
  • Right to Limit Sensitive Personal Information Processing. With regard to Personal Information that qualifies as “Sensitive Personal Information” under U.S. Privacy Laws, you can limit the processing of such Sensitive Personal Information to certain internal business uses.
  • Right to Correct. You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate Personal Information that we maintain about you.

You also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment from us as a result of your exercising these rights.

You may withdraw any consent to process consumer health information previously provided by emailing us at privacy@petscreening.com.

How to Exercise Your Rights

You may exercise your rights under U.S. Privacy Laws by either:

Please be aware that we do not accept or process requests through other means (e.g., via fax, chats, social media etc.).  You may also designate an authorized agent to exercise these rights on your behalf by following the process described in “Authorized Agents,” below.

Verification

In order for you to exercise your privacy rights, we will need to obtain certain information from you to verify your identity. Depending on the type of request made, the sensitivity of the Personal Information, and the risk of harm posed by unauthorized access, deletion, or correction of the Personal Information, we may ask for the following pieces of information in order to verify your identity:

  • full name;
  • email address; and
  • a utility bill or service bill showing your mailing address.

You may also be required to provide us with a signed declaration, under penalty of perjury, that you are who you say you are.

We do not impose verification protocols for processing requests to opt out of the Sale or Sharing of their Personal Information, unless we have reason to question the authenticity of a requester’s identity (e.g., we suspect fraud), in which case we may request an affidavit affirming the requester’s identity and residency.

To the extent possible, we will use our existing account authentication practices to verify your identity. Where necessary, we may request additional information about you so that we can verify your identity. Where we did not already hold that information, we will use it only for the purpose of verifying your identity and to process your request.

Authorized Agents

Residents of certain states can empower an “authorized agent” to submit requests on their behalf through the same means outlined above through which a resident may file a request, subject to our verification of the agent, the agent’s authority to submit requests on your behalf, and of you.

Appeals

Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Washington have the right to appeal a decision regarding a privacy request. You can exercise this right by responding to the email we send containing our response to your request and following the instructions in such email.

Timing

Your requests will be completed within the time permitted or required by applicable law.

Our Responses

Some Personal Information that we maintain is insufficiently specific for us to be able to associate it with a verified Consumer (e.g., clickstream data tied only to a pseudonymous browser ID). We do not include that Personal Information in response to those requests.  If we deny a request, in whole or in part, we will explain the reasons in our response.

We will typically not charge a fee to fully respond to your requests; provided, however, that we may charge a reasonable fee, or refuse to act upon a request, if your request is excessive, repetitive, unfounded, or overly burdensome.  If we determine that the request warrants a fee, or that we may refuse it, we will give you notice explaining why we made that decision.  You will be provided a cost estimate and the opportunity to accept such fees before we will charge you for responding to your request.

Consistent with applicable U.S. Privacy Laws and our interest in the security of your Personal Information, we will not deliver to you your Social Security number, driver’s license number, or other government-issued ID number, financial account number, any health or medical information, an account password, or security questions or answers,  in response to a Consumer privacy rights request.

California “Shine the Light” Law

California Civil Code Section § 1798.83 permits users of our Site that are California residents to opt-out of our disclosure of Personal Information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. To make such a request, California users may request further information by contacting us at privacy@petscreening.com or by writing to us at the address listed in the “How to Contact Us” section below. You must put the statement “Shine the Light Request” in the body of your correspondence. In your request, please attest to the fact that you are a California resident and provide a current California address for your response. This right is different than, and in addition to, CCPA rights, and must be requested separately. However, a request to opt-out of Selling and Sharing is broader and will limit our disclosing to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes without the need for making a separate Shine the Light request. We will not accept Shine the Light requests by telephone or by fax, and are not responsible for requests not labeled or sent properly, or that are incomplete.

California Minors

Although our services are intended for an audience over the age of majority, any California residents under the age of eighteen (18) who have registered to use our services, and posted content on the service, can request removal by contacting us at privacy@petscreening.com, detailing where the content is posted and attesting you posted it. We will then make reasonably good faith efforts to remove the post from prospective public view or anonymize it, so the minor cannot be individually identified to the extent required by applicable law. This removal process cannot ensure complete or comprehensive removal. For instance, third parties may have republished or archived content by search engines we do not control.
